We have just returned from an amazing and eventful week on the island of Jersey! Having missed our ferry on Monday due to a closed motorway we eventually made it over on Tuesday after a 10 hour long ferry ride. We were accommodated by the lovely Mary and David Cahill at the Oases of Peace who were such a blessing to the team (check out their website!).
We kicked off our stay on Wednesday morning with an interview on Radio Jersey chatting about all that we hoped to do during our stay. Our work during the week was primarily focused on sharing the Pure in Heart message, inviting young people to think about the choices they face in how they go about relationships. On Thursday morning we spent some time with the year 9 girls from Beaulieu Catholic School while we also went into Grainville secondary school on Friday to share a secular presentation which was really well received by the students.
On Wednesday evening we hung out with the older members of 'Jacy' (the Jersey Association of Catholic Youth). We considered the verse 'Many are called but few are chosen' (Mt 22:14), and talked about how in responding to Christ's call on our lives with a clear 'Yes' in all that we do, we become chosen.
The week culminated with the 'Spirit on the Rock' event which involved around 130 young people getting together to explore their faith and meet with Jesus. It was really inspiring to see so many gathered together and you can get a feel for the atmosphere by listening to this BBC interview with some of the young people talking about the messages they were exploring (starting at 1hr40min and 2hr48min).
We are now really looking forward to our time in September when we will be doing a 3 week mission on the Island and hope to see many more being filled withthe love of Jesus! Please keep us in your prayers as we go on retreat over the next few days. The boys are spending their time with the Cor et Lumen Christi Community in the Lake District while the girls are with the Dominican Sisters in the New Forest!
