I wonder if you've ever been taken in by the illusiveness of sin? If you've ever felt drawn towards it? We may refuse to acknowledge it but sin is like radioactive mud ; it dirties us, our relationships, the people around us and the world in which we live.
"Sin came into the world through one man, and death came through sin, and so death spread to all because all have sinned". (Romans 5:12)
However, all is not lost, "while we were still sinners Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8). On the cross, Jesus took our sin to himself. He became sin and died as an outcast, a criminal. He changed places with us. "For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life" (John 3:16).
By living, dying and rising from the dead, Jesus washes our sins away. "Through (Jesus') blood, we gain our freedom, the forgiveness of our sins" (Ephesians 1:7).
Unlike the end of this video (where there's still some mud on my face if you look closely), God (who is perfect love) washes us completely from sin, from death, from fear. "There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear". (1 John 4:18)
Because of Jesus we can live without fear, without shame, without the darkness and destruction and death that sin brings. "There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus" (Romans 8:1). In fact, in Christ, we will live forever - "the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord" (Romans 6:23).
Allelulia, Amen.
