"Glory be to Him whose power, working in us, can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine" Eph 3:20

Sion Youth exists to spread hope amongst the whole Church by leading young people to Christ.

We do this by evangelising, discipling and empowering young people. These areas are reflected by the three branches of our ministry:

  • Sion Youth School Mission Team
  • Sion Youth Events
  • Sion Youth Foundation Year

Where are Sion Youth from?

Sion Youth are a part of the Sion Catholic Community for Evangelism, which was formed in 1984 by Father (now Mgr) Pat Lynch, from the Diocese of Nottingham. He was given permission by his Bishop to work full-time in evangelisation. Within a year, Fr Pat had brought together seven other people to found Sion Community. Today, the Community works at the centre of the Church under the authority of the Catholic Bishops of England, Scotland and Wales.

Why the name Sion?

Mount Sion, on which the city of Jerusalem stands, is symbolic of the present and future Kingdom of God. It was the focus from which the preaching of the Gospel went forth to the whole world (Acts 1:8): "You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem (...) and to the ends of the earth.

What is our spirituality?

Picture
Our prayer life is based on and firmly rooted in the tradition of Catholic spirituality and while we recognise other Christians as brothers and sisters in Christ, Sion Community is necessarily and distinctively Roman Catholic.

Our spiritual ethos could be described as charismatic and Eucharistic. We pray the Prayer of the Church, worship in a charismatic style and have regular times of quiet adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.   We encourage the personal spiritual development of all our members in ways appropriate to their state and journey in life.   We try to remain faithful to the call God has given us as a Community.
